Carotid artery disease occurs when the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain, become narrowed or blocked due to the buildup of plaque. This condition increases the risk of stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), and other neurological complications.
Diagnosis: Diagnosing carotid artery disease typically involves a combination of medical history review, physical examination, and imaging tests such as carotid ultrasound, magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), or computed tomography angiography (CTA).
